Curling Nationals begin on Saturday

Purchase all-day passes for $10, midday draws to feature food specials

KALAMAZOO - The 2015 U.S.A. Curling Nationals return to the Wings Stadium Event Center starting this Saturday, February 14 and all-day passes are available.

The best curlers in the country will compete in The Annex from Saturday, February 14-Saturday, February 21.

In total 20 of the best men’s (10) and women’s (10) teams will head to southwest Michigan to via for the opportunity to represent the United States in the World Championships later this year.  Click here to see the team’s competing in Kalamazoo.

On Saturday, the complex will host the Opening Ceremonies at 2:30 p.m. followed by the first two draws at 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. From Sunday, February 15 - Thursday, February 19 there will be four draws each day (two women, two men) at 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. A complete schedule is listed at the end of this release.

The semi-finals will occur on Friday, February 20 with the women’s draw occurring at 4 p.m. and the men’s at 8 p.m. The finals will be held on Saturday, February 21, the women’s draw will commence at 10 a.m. and the men’s at 3 p.m.

Anyone who has a ticket to the Kalamazoo Wings hockey game on either Wednesday, February 18 or Friday, February 20 can watch the 4 p.m. draw on the corresponding day for FREE.

Patrons that come watch the 11 a.m. draws can also purchase a great lunch deal. Wings Stadium will offer a slice of Hungry Howie’s delicious pizza and a 16 ounce thirst quenching Pepsi for $3, or a mouth-watering burger and thirst quenching Pepsi for $5. The specials will be available daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The U.S.A. Curling Nationals appearance in Kalamazoo is fitting, as the first curling club in the United States was formed in Michigan and curled on Orchard Lake in 1831. Now, there are nine clubs in Michigan, including the Kalamazoo Curling Club.

The 2015 championships mark the second time that the Wings Stadium Events Center has hosted the nation’s top curling event. Previous the complex hosted the curling nationals in 2010.
