Hastings Racer Double Threat Saturday At Ice Racing World Championship

01/28/2014
Kalamazoo, Mich. - Hastings native “Captain” Kirk Cheney will be doing double duty this Saturday 7 p.m.  at Wings Stadium. The event Cheney will be competing in is the pivotal Round-5 of the 7 Round 38th Annual World Championship ICE Racing Series sanctioned by ICE/International Championship Events. Kirk has been a long time and successful competitor in the professional ICE Manufacturers World Cup Motorcycle Division. This class features powerful, lightweight, state-of-the-art racing motorcycles capable of launching their rider from 0-60MPH in less than 3 seconds – ON ICE! Cheney has one Major ICE Championship victory under his belt in Salt Lake City and currently is 4th in World Championship Points.

Kalamazoo race fans will be treated to other special events during this event including select amateur classes designed to encourage local participation. Cheney will be joined by a host of highly ranked ice racers including Reigning Cup Bike World Champion Jake “The Snake” Mataya – Blaine, MN; “Fly’n” Brian McKenna – Plymouth, MA; Dan “Iron Man” White – Kamloops, BC, Canada; “Freight Train” Tom McGrane – Gap, PA; Pensacola Round-3 winner Jay “The Hammer” Maloney – Paradise, NJ to name a few in the Cup Bikes. Other notables in the Outlaw Quads will be Brandon Davis – Bloomington, IL riding the spectacular Harley-Davidson powered “Thunder Quad”; Pensacola winner Chuck “Ice Man” Calvert – Madison, WI; Anthony “Soprano” Demeo – Elizabeth, NJ and Ken “Stunt Man” Remer – Madison, WI. The Outlaws often steal the show because of the wild characters riding them, their crazy antics on the ice and the fact there are hardly any rules. Any engine, any fuel no holds barred anything goes racing!
